Simple Ways to Add Art to Your Kitchen

January 5, 2022

We tend to cover the walls of our living rooms, bedrooms, and dining areas with artwork to beautify the space. We feel that bare walls in those areas create a stark and unwelcoming atmosphere, yet most of us neglect to hang even a simple picture in our kitchens.

Kitchens have truly become the heart of the home. It is where meals are prepared, entertaining happens, and family activities often take place. Since we spend a significant amount of time in our kitchens, why shouldn’t they boast beautiful art pieces like our other rooms? We’ve put together a few easy ways you can elevate your kitchen design with art.

Create a Gallery Wall

When it comes to wall décor, gallery walls are all the rage right now. They allow you to express yourself with various styles, textures, and colours and are completely customizable. You can choose a theme and include pieces that complement it or opt for a more eclectic feel. The options are endless. A gallery wall is a dynamic display and can be added to or changed whenever you feel the urge.

If you are lost on where to start, Pinterest and a simple Google search will generate plenty of gallery wall ideas. Be mindful of where you decide to display your gallery wall. You will want to avoid splatter from your cooking and cleaning areas.

Transform a Blank Wall into a Chalkboard Wall

A blank wall does nothing for the vibe of your kitchen. Using chalkboard paint to transform these walls can make a chic statement, be functional, and even make your kitchen feel larger. There are many ways to include a chalkboard wall in your kitchen and achieve a sophisticated look.

Chalkboard walls instantly make a space more welcoming and personalized. Since you can write on the wall or decorate it as you please, it easily reflects your taste and personality. Keep in mind that you don’t have to paint an entire wall if that seems too much. Using a sizable free-standing chalkboard will achieve a similar effect without quite the same commitment.

Display Art Above Upper Cabinets or Around Windows

Many people’s kitchen cabinets do not extend all the way up to the ceiling, leaving dead space that usually remains empty. Take advantage of this blank canvas and treat the tops of your cabinets as an art ledge. You can display pottery, sculptures, plants, or stand pictures or frames.

You can achieve a balanced and welcoming look by placing paired artwork, frames, or photography around your kitchen windows. The natural light of the window will enhance the beauty of your pieces. Symmetrical artwork works great around windows, and matching frames can add an extra touch of balance.

Choose an Interesting Backsplash Design or Pattern

Incorporating more artwork into your kitchen does not need to be in the form of framed prints, paintings, or canvases. Structural elements such as your kitchen backsplash can be elevated to add a whole new dimension to your décor. By choosing an interesting design or pattern for your backsplash, you can bring texture and personality into your kitchen.

When brainstorming backsplash ideas, ensure you consider the area’s functionality as well. You want it to be easy to clean while simultaneously forming a beautiful focal point.
